The A.O. Smith Memorial Organ again

The organ is complete! John-Paul Buzard, of John-Paul Buzard, Organbuilders, personally finished the final voicing, finishing and tuning of the instrument on Friday, September 11. The organ will now go through a "settling-in" period before it is pronounced entirely finished.        The results are nothing short of spectacular! The instrument speaks with a commanding presence in the room, but is quite refined in tone. The Robert Stevens Memorial Console is operating perfectly and has had two plaques attached; one from the original console naming the A.O. Smith memorial Organ as a gift of his family, and a second one which says, "This organ console is dedicated to the memory of Robert Louis Stevens 1920-2001 whose generous bequest made its acquisition possible"

The organ was re-dedicated at the 10:30 AM service on All Saint's Sunday, November 3, 2002.         Anyone wishing a closer look at the instrument, or wishing to try it out, need only present yourself at the console after the postlude on any Sunday and the Director of Music will gladly demonstrate the instrument for you.

The Vested Choir of Kenwood United Methodist Church

Do you like to sing? Whether you would just like to join us for a short period, or you want to make a longer commitment, just speak to any Vested Choir member, or to the Director of Music, and we would be delighted to help you get started. You do not need to be able to read music to sing with us.

The Vested Choir is a mixed choir of about 20 amateur singers who rehearse weekly and lead the congregation in worship on Sundays and special services (from September to June). The choir leads the singing of the liturgy and hymnody of the church, and offers selections from a broad range of sacred music in the form of choral responses, psalmody, and anthems.

On occasion, more extended works of the great masters are performed in the context of the worship service (e.g. cantatas, masses, motets). Frequently, additional voices are required for these pieces and persons may join the choir with a specific short-term commitment for that occasion.

Rehearsals are Thursday 7:00-8:45 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.

Membership in the choir is open to all of High School age or older who are able to sing and enjoy singing the music of the Church in its worship. For further information, contact Larry Wheelock, the Director of Music by email or by telephone: 414-617-2535
